When people think of sharks, a lot of things come to mind. Maybe you instantly get theme song to “Jaws” stuck in your head. Or you may envision a massive predator lurking in the depths.
It’s doubtful that you imagine sharks as anything but solitary hunters. However, new evidence from National Geographic proves that several species of shark actually prefer to spend some of their days being social– hanging out with other sharks of the same species in what are known as “schools.”
Using small cameras affixed to the shark’s fin, a team of researchers in Hawaii were able to capture incredible footage of this unique behavior without human interference. Not only does the recording offer incredible insight into the behavior of these incredible animals, the video is just incredible!
