He Was Shot While Witnessing The Death Of His Mother, So They Could Steal Him And Sell Him As A Petamaisano
An 18-month-old Orangutan, named Didik, was found abandoned at a shop in Indonesia. He was sick, starving, and worst of all—someone shot him in the shoulder. Officials from International Animal Rescue (IAR) believe Didik was injured while witnessing the death of his mother, who was likely shot and killed so Didik could be stolen and later sold as a pet.
Didik was extremely depressed without his mother and his road to recovery would be a long one. Thankfully they were able to successfully remove the bullet from the poor baby Orangutan’s shoulder, and now he is doing great!
With September comes back-to-school for kids, and Didik is no exception. Just like humans, these orangutans, including Didik, attend school also. IAR has a forest school for orphaned babies like him, which teaches them the basics of being an orangutan.
“Didik was a little nervous at first at the sight of so many inquisitive and unfamiliar faces,” IAR wrote online. “However it didn’t take him long to get used to his new surroundings and he was soon venturing up on to the climbing frame – into the arms of his babysitter for some reassurance! It wasn’t long before Didik was up in the trees with his friends, climbing and swinging confidently in the branches.”
