The Kenyan Maasai Mara started in 1961 as a 200 square mile (520 square km) conservation zone, but has since more than doubled to 583 square miles (1,510 square km). It accommodates some incredible animals, most notably lions, hippopotami, African elephants, and the critically endangered black rhinoceros.

This beautiful sanctuary, located in the northeastern Serengeti, also hosts wildebeests, antelopes, zebras, and gazelle during their yearly migration to the area.
