Flamingos are usually born white or gray. Their steady diet of shrimp is what lends them their remarkable pink hue around two years old.

Recently, however, scientists were wowed when they spotted a striking, black flamingo on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus while they were doing their annual count of the birds. Only one other black flamingo has ever been spotted in the wild in Israel in 2014, and researchers believe that this may be the same individual. That would mean this could be the only black flamingo in the entire world.
