WATCH: Rare Australian Penguins with Dog Protectors!

Though Australia’s maremma dogs are typically used to protect free-range chickens from predators, environmental scientists in Warrnambool thought they might be of some help with their penguin problem.

The population of little penguins (“little” because they are the smallest penguin species), who make a home at Middle Island, Warrnambool in Australia, was dropping sharply.

Conservationists in the area, hoping to protect these tiny flightless avians, introduced maremma dogs to the area to drive off predators. And by golly it worked!
