When She Flies Over An Active Volcano, You Won’t Believe What She Sees

Are you brave enough to go skydiving? If not, you can live vicariously through this footage that Roberta Mancino recorded as she flew over Chile’s Villarrica stratovolcano wearing only a wingsuit and a parachute. The Villarrica is one of Chile’s most active volcanoes, but Mancino had been training for years to make the leap that would allow her to view the volcano at the incredible height of 15,000 feet.

Wingsuit flyers need to be incredibly experienced skydivers, because not only are they plummeting towards the earth at rapids speeds, they also need to be able to steer themselves through potentially dangerous obstacles. Many of which, are usually deadly. But for Mancino, seeing the ultimate view of this volcano was well worth the risk.

For another look at volcanoes — from a more destructive angle — watch as lava from the Pu’u ‘O’o vent of the Kilauea volcano slowly overwhelms a tropical forest in Hawaii.
