This Composer Created A Perfectly Haunting Song To Represent The Melting Arctic

Art can be a unique and powerful way to send a message about important causes, as seen in this haunting video that shows Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi as he performs “Elegy for the Arctic” while floating on a platform in the Arctic Ocean. Einaudi worked in conjunction with OSPAR and Greenpeace in advance of the OSPAR meeting in Tenerife, Spain.

Einaudi plays the song in front of Norway’s Wahlenbergbreen glacier, which melts and groans as he performs. It is a haunting image that perfectly coincides with the OSPAR meeting, which aimed to secure the first protected area in Arctic international waters.

You can get involved with protecting the Arctic beyond just watching this video. Polar bears are an iconic symbol of this region, but their lives are at stake. Melting ice floes require them to travel ever greater distances to find food, which often results in starvation. Sign this petition to tell Congress that they should let the EPA do its job and support strong climate standards.
